Resumen:	The concept of medical necessity has been essential to the purchase of health care services by third-party payers, including commercial insurance and federal entitlement programs (i.e., Medicaid and Medicare). The theory underlying this concept is that a person's health care services should be reimbursable only if the service for which reimbursement is being sought is necessary to treat a particular condition, sickness, or injury.
